Looking After a Fresh Paint Job
New paint is not fully hardened the day you drive away. The surface is dry to touch, but the clear coat keeps curing for weeks, so how you treat it early on affects how well it lasts.
For the first couple of weeks, wash by hand with a soft mitt and mild car shampoo, and stay out of automatic car washes with their harsh brushes. Avoid parking under sap-dropping trees, wipe off bird mess and bugs quickly since they can etch soft paint, and hold off on wax or sealant until the finish has fully cured.
After that first month the paint is tougher and normal care applies. Regular gentle washing and the occasional wax will keep the gloss up and protect the finish for years. A quality respray is an investment, and a little care early on is what protects it.
